Ciaran Morgan, M0XTD, and the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) UK Team were awarded the Louis Varney Cup on April 22 at the RSGB 90th Annual General Meeting in Cardiff, Wales. Taiwan to Drop Amateur Radio Morse Code Requirement

According to an article in Taipei Times, the National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan (the Republic of China) has proposed to abolish the Amateur Radio Morse code requirement and to permit operation on 432-440 MHz on a secondary basis, among other changes to the Amateur Radio rules there.

The NCC has said that a Morse requirement “should not hinder the development of Amateur Radio.”

Volunteer firefighter Scotty Douglas “Doug” Deckard, KC5PLA, of Quitman, Arkansas, died on April 30 after being struck by a car during torrential rainfall while checking water lines in his community. Deckard, an ARRL member, was 51. He served as Cove Creek/Pearson Volunteer Fire Chief.

NOAA Seeks Comments on Discontinuing WWV-WWVH North Atlantic and North Pacific Marine Storm Warnings

NOAA is considering ending the North Atlantic and North Pacific marine storm warning announcements at minutes 8, 9, and 10 for WWV, and at minutes 48, 49, 50, and 51 for WWVH. Nearly 280 Amateur Radio communication volunteers on April 17 participated the 2017 Boston Marathon, the 121st running of the event organized by the Boston Athletic Association (BAA).
